Ablaze: Burning while Oil-SoakedBe wary of catching fire when oil-soaked-you will be set "ablaze," meaning you burn more fiercely and for longer than usual, resulting in a rapid loss of health.
Absorbing SoulsThe souls you absorb with your gauntlet will produce different effects depending on their color. The more you absorb at once, the greater their effect.
Action PromptsWith Action Prompts enabled via System Menu > Settings > Gameplay, icons indicating how to deal with enemy attacks will be displayed. Note: The actual icons shown will follow your control settings.
Areas of Concentrated MaliceParts of Eastern Kyoto afflicted with concentrated Malice cannot be entered. You may have to purify other areas in order to make them accessible.
Armored GenmaSome Genma are equipped with armor that renders them impervious to attack. However, with enough hits, it can be broken. This process can be made considerably quicker by using Oni Strength: Destroy.
AssassinationsPress Light attack or Heavy attack When Behind Enemy
Attacking While on a LadderYou can still attack and defend while climbing a ladder. Press Light attack to swing your sword above you, and Move Back + Light attack to attack below.
Awakening and Oni Armaments in Second PlaythroughsOni Armaments and Awakened abilities will be carried over from your completed game saved data. All unlocked skills and abilities will also be carried over. The chests that formerly contained the Armaments will now contain items.
Basic AttacksPress Light attack for a one-handed attack, and Heavy attack for a two-handed attack. One-handed attacks deal less damage, but are easier to land. Two-handed attacks deal more damage, but are more easily evaded.

Blazing EnemiesUnder certain circumstances, such as when they absorb a large number of souls, enemies can enter the Blazing State. While Blazing, they will deal more damage and use special abilities.

Blue SoulsAbsorbing blue souls will fill the Oni Power Gauge, enabling you to use Oni Armaments. Blue souls appear when you land attacks on enemies, and more will appear the lower the Oni Power Gauge is.
Boss RematchesYou can fight any bosses you've faced again, adjusting the difficulty level as you please. You won't be able to use any items except Hozuki, but you can earn unique rewards for each difficulty level.
Break Issen and BossesUse Move to Select a Target Area, Then Press Light attack or Heavy attack
Carrying Over Progress to a New PlaythroughBy loading a save in which the game has been completed, you can carry over certain items and features into a new game. The following will be carried over: Awakened Oni Abilities Including Oni Strength, Oni Vision, and Oni Agility Any enhanced basic or special abilities Hozuki Pouches and pouch enhancements (Hozuki Pouch management will become available as you progress.) Items, offerings, and some materials (You will become able to trade in red souls as you progress.) Charms and charm enhancements (Enma's Hall will become available as you progress.) Any outfits acquired (The ability to change outfits will become available as you progress.) Drills and Boss Rematch unlock and completion status (The Practice Ground will become available as you progress.) Genma Notes and any Lion Dogs you have rescued (Genma Notes and Curious Cases will become available as you progress.)

Changing Your OutfitThe ability to change outfits becomes available as you progress.
Citizens in NeedEven after a part of Eastern Kyoto has been cleared of corruption, its residents may still require assistance. Help them out to earn rewards. Their locations will be marked on your map as you progress.
Clearing Corrupted AreasCut down noxious, corruption-causing plants in order to clear areas of concentrated Malice from Eastern Kyoto, and expand your area of activity.
Closing Rifts in Eastern KyotoEastern Kyoto is infested with Malice, and Rifts have begun to open up everywhere. Close any Rifts you come across to obtain Malicite and other useful items.
Countering GrabsPress Dodge Just Before Grab Lands
Countering While Wall RunningPress Guard While Wall Running
Crimson MaliceA crimson liquid substance that releases thick clouds of Malice. It is best avoided, as exposure rapidly depletes health.
Curious Cases and Lion DogsCurious Cases and the map can be invaluable in helping you locate missing Lion Dogs, as can revisiting places you've already been to. And finding them can be well worth your while - the more you find, the better the rewards.

DestinationsYou can look at the map to see story-related destinations. Current destinations will be marked with special icons.
Destroying Malice BarriersHold Interact in Front of a Malice Barrier
DrillsYou can undertake various drills in the practice ground that will enable you to practice the techniques you have learned. New drills will be added as you learn new skills and improve your abilities.
Enemy AttacksClose-range attacks come in two types: armed and unarmed. Avoid the former by parrying or deflecting, and the latter with a Reflex Dodge. Figuring out which you need in which moment is the key to victory.
Enhancing CharmsYou can upgrade your charms at Enma's Hall, thereby improving their effects. Doing so will require red souls and other offerings.
Enhancing EquipmentUse materials to enhance equipment. Enhance your sword for increased attack, clothing for health and stamina, and gauntlet for Oni power.
Equipping CharmsYou can enhance your charms at Enma's Hall at Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, thereby improving their effects. Doing so will require red souls and other offerings.
Floating Rock CoresShoot the cores within clusters of floating rocks to bring them crashing down, dealing damage to any enemies underneath.
Hidden Oni PowerEnter the Oni Portals hidden around Eastern Kyoto to obtain special powers that will allow you to enhance your equipment and abilities. They're marked on your map, and can be revealed with Oni Vision.
Hozuki and Hozuki PouchesUse the equipped Hozuki Pouch to recover during combat. Restock Hozuki from pickups or your storehouse; talk to Okuni to change or enhance the pouch.
IssenPress Light attack or Heavy attack Just Before Being Hit
Johari ShardHold/Press Hold Absorb + Oni Bow While Exploring Eastern Kyoto Area
Locking Onto a TargetPress Lock on to lock onto a target, fixing them in the center of the screen. To switch between targets, use Previous lock-on target and Next lock-on target.
Malice PlantsExposure to Malice will cause your health to slowly deplete. Cut down any nearby noxious plants to clear the air of its scourge.
Managing Your PouchesTalk to Okuni to enhance your Hozuki Pouches, or to swap your currently equipped one for another. Enhancing your pouches will increase their capacity and boost their restorative power.
Obtaining Favor to Enhance CharmsMake offerings to accumulate favor, which can be used to enhance your charms. The favor gained will differ depending on the offering. Offerings are earned by exploring Eastern Kyoto and helping people.
