The demons invading Kyoto
Genma are monsters from another world that enter Kyoto through supernatural rifts. They include armed foot soldiers, floating scavengers, giants, engineered beasts, and creatures capable of deception. They kill, devour, corrupt, and occupy human places.
Different Genma change how an encounter works. Kubi Akari steal loose souls, Daidara consumes them, Dokyo creates new variants, and Rasho-gan exploits human wishes.

Souls and the Oni Gauntlet
Defeated Genma release souls that Musashi absorbs through the Oni Gauntlet. Red souls grant experience, yellow souls restore health, and blue souls restore Oni Energy.
The game presents Oni and Genma as opposing forces. Shuten Doji complicates that division by claiming the identity of a legendary Oni despite being a Genma.
